GUY WOODCOCK - “Goya's Spain”

Mar 20, 2025 | 07:30 PM

The famous Spanish painter Francisco Goya (1746-1828) is considered by many to be one of the first modern socially critical artists. One of his most famous works is the "Caprichos", a series of paintings that depict, criticize, ridicule and diagnose the social conditions of his time. The Jewish-Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) took 24 pictures from this series and brought them to musical life by scoring them. In the program "Goya's Spain", some of these pieces of music can be heard and the paintings by Goya can be seen. The concert will open with the first painting in this series, a self-portrait of the artist, and a short film with live music will also be presented.

To complement Tedesco's music, the audience can also look forward to pieces by important Spanish composers such as Isaac Albéniz, Enrique Granados, Joaquín Rodrigo and Francisco Tarrega.
